Accendó Coffee Shop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Accendó Coffee Shop is located in Nueva California in the Highlands of Chiriquí. You can see Mount Baru in the background as you drive into the parking lot. The coffee shop is far enough off the main road that you don’t hear any traffic noise. It’s a comfortable place for coffee lovers, where you’ll find a gathering of local Panamanians and a variety of expats from all over the world.
The first thing you notice when you enter is the brightness, natural light bouncing off the light wood, clean metal walls, and warm brick behind the counter. It feels open, airy, and instantly welcoming… like the building itself just had its morning coffee.
Your eyes are naturally drawn up to the menu hanging above the front counter—simple, clear, no squinting required. Off to the side, shelves display neatly bagged coffee, practically whispering, “Take me home, you know you want to.” And you’ll also find delicious items on the menu. Two of my favorites are the English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich and the Avocado toast. The prices are reasonable. For an Americano coffee and a sandwich, my bill came to $7.25. Excellente!
And seating? Plenty. Whether you’re in the mood to sip quietly, people-watch, or solve the mysteries of the universe over a second cup, as I did, there’s a table waiting for you. The Wi-Fi is free. Oh, and there’s plenty of room outside on their patio.
You can also enter another room through the white, glass doors. This is where they roast the coffee. Accendó buys all of their coffee from local farms – no Starbucks, Dunkin’ or Peets Coffee brands here.
In short: bright, clean, organized… and dangerously inviting for anyone who “just planned to stop in for one coffee.” ☕

Stop by and meet the owner, Monte Unruh, a very friendly and outgoing guy from the United States. The business is a family affair, so you may also run into a family member or two while you’re there.
